If you are looking for smoother tighter skin, then SkinPen might be right for you! SkinPen is the first FDA approved microneedling device. It works by creating temporary microchannels in the skin that stimulate your body’s natural healing process to increase the formation of collagen and elastin.
Microneedling is a minimally invasive, nonsurgical, natural treatment, used to restore your skin’s youthful appearance. It is safe for all skin types. Microneedling creates temporary microchannels in the skin that stimulate your own natural formation of collagen and elastin. This treatment can be used to treat fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, reduce the appearance of pore size, and more!
We recommend that you come with a clean face free of makeup. A medical grade topical numbing cream is applied to the desired area 20-30 minutes prior to treatment. The microneedling device is moved gently across the surface of your skin creating tiny punctures that activate your bodys natural healing process stimulating collagen and elastin formation within the skin. These tiny punctures also act as channels to allow better penetration of serums applied to the skin.
Topical numbing is applied for 20-30 minutes prior to treatment. The microneedling treatment itself takes 30 minutes
- Avoid unprotected sun exposure or sun burn for 2 weeks prior to microneedling.
- Discontinue use of topical agents that can increase sensitivity to the skin such as retinoids, topical antibiotics, exfoliation, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide for 5-7 days prior to treatment.
- Avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve for 3 days prior to treatment as these agents will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical for your skins rejuvenation.
- Avoid blood thinning agents such as aspirin, fish oil, vitamin-E for 1 week prior. Ask your Primary Care Provider if you are unsure if you can stop these medications.
- No waxing or electrolysis to the area being treated 5-7 days prior.
- Avoid shaving the area to be treated day of the procedure.
- If you are prone to cold sores, take antiviral medication 2 days prior to and the day of treatment. Please contact our clinic if a prescription is needed.
There is no required downtime although you might notice mild skin irritation and redness for a few days after treatment. Immediately after treatment, most patients report that they have redness similar to a mild sunburn. This redness can last 12-24 hours depending on your individualized treatment. Some mild swelling and bruising may also be noted the first 24 hours. You may experience peeling or slight flaking of the treatment area.
Results begin to appear a few weeks to 6 months after treatment. For best results we recommend a series of 3-5 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
